Water Softener Installation in Pflugerville, TX

Pflugerville's water is among the hardest in Central Texas — 15 to 25 grains per gallon of dissolved calcium and magnesium that scale up your water heater, dishwasher, faucets, and pipes. A properly sized water softener is one of the most cost-effective plumbing upgrades a Pflugerville homeowner can make.

Pflugerville Has a Hard Water Problem — Here Is What It Is Doing to Your Home

The City of Pflugerville draws its municipal supply from the Colorado River basin, processed through the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority and the City of Austin's treatment plants. The source water runs through Edwards Plateau limestone, which means it naturally carries extremely high concentrations of calcium and magnesium. After treatment, what arrives at your tap is safe to drink but still carries that mineral load — and those minerals do not stay invisible for long.

Walk into any Pflugerville home that has been on city water for more than three or four years without a softener and you will see it: white crusty buildup around the faucet aerators, a film on glass shower doors that never fully wipes clean, and pots and kettles with a chalky residue at the waterline. Those are cosmetic annoyances. The deeper problem is what is happening inside the pipes and appliances you cannot see.

Inside a water heater tank, calcium carbonate precipitates out when water is heated and settles as scale on the heating element and the bottom of the tank. An inch of scale is roughly equivalent to an inch of insulation — the burner has to work harder and longer to heat the same amount of water. Appliance manufacturers consistently cite hard water as the leading cause of premature appliance failure. In Pflugerville's 20+ gpg environment, a water heater that would last 12 years in Houston or Dallas may struggle to reach 8 without maintenance.

What a Water Softener Actually Does

A salt-based ion-exchange softener is the gold standard for hardness removal. The resin tank is packed with sodium-charged resin beads. As hard water flows through, calcium and magnesium ions swap places with sodium ions, leaving the water chemically soft. Periodically, a brine solution flushes the resin tank, recharging the beads and sending the captured minerals down the drain. The result is water that produces no scale, lathers soap properly, and is significantly gentler on every water-using appliance in the home.

For Pflugerville's 15–25 gpg hardness range, we typically install 32,000- to 64,000-grain capacity units depending on household size and daily usage. Getting the sizing right matters — an undersized unit regenerates too frequently, wasting salt and water; an oversized unit may go too long between cycles and allow hardness to slip through. We measure your actual inlet hardness with a calibrated test kit and calculate the appropriate unit for your specific household, not a generic recommendation.

Installation and What to Expect

A whole-house softener installation in a typical Pflugerville home takes three to five hours. We locate the unit after the main shutoff but before the water heater (so the hot water side is also softened), run a dedicated drain line for regeneration discharge, and connect the brine tank. We test outlet hardness before we leave to confirm the system is working correctly. We also walk you through salt selection — which type works best in your setup — and the regeneration schedule so you understand what normal looks like.

If your home already has a softener loop roughed in (common in newer Pflugerville subdivisions like Verona and Avalon), installation time drops significantly. We can often complete those in under two hours.

Protect Your Investment With Proper Water Treatment

A water softener is especially valuable if you also have or plan to install a tankless water heater. The narrow passages in a tankless heat exchanger scale over fast in hard water without upstream treatment — a softener is practically required to protect that investment. We frequently install both in the same visit for new construction or major remodel situations.

Reviews for water softener installation

Alberto has done work at my house a couple of time from installing PRV to new water softener. Highly reliable and knowledgeable. I highly recommend anyone needing plumbing services done to contact him

Wow! That’s all! If I can give Alberto Plumbing a 10, I would. OK, let me tell you my experience. We bought a water softener from another company that was a filter for the entire house in 2020. We never saw a huge difference and overall not even good. On top of that, the plumber did terrible and ugly work. I hated from day one the look of the installation. NOW is the time to have an opinion with someone I can trust, based on the reviews. I called Alberto and he was very honest, long story short he installed a new system and the installation was beautiful! And I love the result, now I know what we have was trash, the system we have thanks to Alberto the water is fresh, clean, soft, and no more water stains. The previous system cloth our faucet, we change them and that was a hint that something was run. The hard water in Pflugerville is terrible and if I don't change this filter maybe the major issue in a new future was coming. BUT NOW I'm covered and I love the service provided. Thank you Alberto you are beyond knowledgeable and professional!

I am a Real Estate Broker over 20 years and have used many plumbers over the years! Alberto was referred to me for a quality water softener to be installed in Round Rock where water very hard! Alberto went to my home and gave me an estimate right away that was very reasonable and I felt a great price for a system that has a lifetime warranty! The ones at Home Depot and Lowes won't last but few years... Alberto went on short notice and did the install and it is great! He was so professional and honest and great price and quality!!! I am thrilled and have a GREAT PLUMBER now!!!! I will use him from here on out and will refer him to everyone!!! Mary Fields, Native of Austin, TX for 35 years...

Alberto Plumbing were able to squeeze me in to do an estimate same day despite being booked up when I explained my situation. They were able to help fix the problem then and there. As well as educate me better on what happened/what to look for if there's a next time. They also mentioned some simple things I can do myself to maintain longevity of water heater and water softener. They were very thorough, polite, & professional. 10/10 Will hire again next time I need a plumber.

Great guy. He stopped by today to repair a leaky faucet. He was also kind enough to give advice on our water softener, which was very helpful. The repair seems professionally done and ia good so far. Overall, my first experience with him was great.

Alberto Plumbing has done a number of big jobs for me since I moved here in August. I have been so very pleased with his skill, professionalism, attention to detail, and fair pricing. In addition to the listed jobs, he also installed a salt-free water filtration and softening system. I highly recommend Alberto Plumbing!

Alberto has helped us SO much with both of our homes!! He has done work outside and inside by either repairing or replacing things. He has replaced a garbage disposal, replace the main valve out front, helped secure a water filtration system that is also connected to the water softener, and most recently our shower heads causing pressure issues.

Our main bathroom had a problem - so my husband and I both called several local plumbers and no one could fit us in without charging us premium rates. Alberto was busy too but he made our problem his problem. He is professional and explained everything including maintenance tips to keep our plumbing in good shape going forward. His price beat the quotes from other local plumbers. We’re going to use his services for our water softener next. Highly recommend Alberto!

Alberto installed a whole house water filtration system for us in roughly half the time other plumbers had quoted us. He was both responsive and very professional throughout the entire process. He helped us verify that the system was right for our house, gave us a free quote and installed the system a couple days later. We couldn’t be happier!! Thank you Alberto for your excellent work!

Alberto came highly recommended by a co-worker. He replaced our water softener and installed a utility sink in our garage. He was exceptionally professional, and provided excellent work at a very competitive price. He took his time to do the work right, including correcting previous poor plumbing work and bringing it up to code. We will undoubtedly be using him again and will be recommending him to anyone who needs a plumber!

Excellent service. Clear and professional communication from the start, with no pressure for additional sales. "Alberto Plumbing" resolved the problem I had with the bathroom sink and even explained how to help keep the pipes clean. Very respectful and left the area where he worked spotless.

FAQ

Water Softener Installation in Pflugerville — FAQs

Pflugerville water is very hard — routinely 15 to 25 grains per gallon (gpg), sourced from the Edwards Plateau limestone aquifer. The EPA considers anything above 7 gpg "hard." Pflugerville is more than double that threshold, which is why scale buildup on fixtures, appliances, and inside pipes is so visible and fast-acting here.
