Why Round Rock Homes Are Prone to Drain Clogs

Round Rock's dramatic growth over the past two decades means the city contains housing from multiple eras — and each era brings its own plumbing realities. The newer master-planned developments in Teravista, Siena, and along the A.W. Grimes corridor have PVC sewer systems that are structurally sound but not immune to buildup. Kitchen lines in heavily used homes accumulate grease regardless of pipe material. The older neighborhoods near downtown Round Rock, the University Boulevard area, and Cat Hollow may have clay-tile or cast-iron sewer laterals that crack, shift, and collect root intrusions far more readily than modern PVC.

Round Rock also has significant tree coverage in its established neighborhoods. Live oaks and cedar elms — staples of Central Texas landscaping — have root systems that extend far beyond the drip line of the canopy. Sewer lines are particularly attractive to these roots because they carry warm water and, crucially, nutrients. A hairline crack in a clay-tile joint is all a root tip needs to enter. Once inside, it doubles and triples in diameter until the pipe is fully obstructed.

The Real Difference Between a Snake and Hydro-Jetting

We get asked frequently whether snaking is "good enough" or whether hydro-jetting is worth the additional cost. The honest answer depends on what is in the pipe.

A standard electric drum snake (auger) is an excellent tool for breaking through a discrete clog — a mass of hair and soap scum at the P-trap, a wad of paper products caught at a fitting, or a light root intrusion that hasn't fully obstructed the pipe. The snake punches through the obstruction and restores flow. What it does not do is clean the pipe wall. After snaking a kitchen drain, for instance, the grease column that reduced the pipe to a quarter of its original bore is still there — you now have a small channel through it, not a clean pipe.

Hydro-jetting at 3,500 psi strips that grease column off the pipe wall entirely. The forward-facing and rear-facing jets on the hydro nozzle simultaneously cut through blockages ahead and scour the wall clean behind. The result is a pipe that is close to its original bore, not just passable. For recurring kitchen backups or any main-line situation, jetting provides a demonstrably more durable result. We will tell you honestly which approach fits your situation and budget — we do not upsell jetting when a snake will genuinely solve the problem.

Camera Inspection: Seeing Is Knowing

For any drain that has been snaked twice or more without a lasting result, a camera inspection is the next right step — not more snaking. We push a waterproof push-rod camera through the line and show you in real time what is actually there: a grease column, a root mass, a belly in the line, a cracked pipe joint, or an offset caused by soil movement. That information determines the right repair rather than guessing.

Round Rock's expansive clay soil shifts with the notorious Central Texas wet-dry cycles, and it frequently produces bellies (low spots that trap solids) in sewer lines that have been in the ground for more than 15–20 years. A belly cannot be cleared by snaking — the pipe itself has to be excavated and regraded. Camera inspection is the only way to know whether that is what you are dealing with.

Reviews for drain cleaning

Alberto did an excellent job fixing my kitchen sink, which wouldn’t drain no matter what I tried. He was professional, persistent, and didn’t give up when it mattered. The issue turned out to be a heavy grease buildup deep in the drain, and with his drain snake equipment, he was able to clear it after some effort. He also took the time to share helpful preventative tips to avoid the problem in the future. I really appreciated his expertise and would highly recommend him.

We had a block in our front sewer pipe. Jose came out promptly and was able to start working on it quickly. He dug up only the small portion of our front yard where the block was located. He showed us the issue [roots in a cracked pipe of course] and quickly repaired the spot. He then replaced the dirt and left it level and neat. We were very happy with our experience!

He diagnosed the problem correctly before he even saw the blocked pipe, it was due to an AC drain line constantly putting water into our sink pipes. He was quick and seems like an honest person. Will definitely use him again, especially with his reasonable prices

I am recent Customer. Men were both professional & efficient. I was scheduled the next day after I called. Aside from fixing the clogged in my toilet. They also suggested to install a regulator. My home water pressure was high and I have water leak in my house. He saved me from potentially huge (water leak) problem. Highly recommend. Thanks!

I texted late on a Friday evening about a blockage in our home's sewer cleanout (the cap had been broken by pool construction and it filled with dirt and rocks). They were able to come out the next day to evaluate and explain what they would do (not only clean out the debris but expose the pipes to ensure there weren't any cracks/damage). I went forward with their services and within about 2 hours, including time to go to Home Depot for parts they didn't have in the truck, they cleaned out the debris, made the repairs, and filled the dirt back in from where they exposed the pipes (luckily there was no damage). I was so happy to have a quick resolution so we could use our facilities again ;-)

A neighbor recommended him to help with a clogged garbage disposal. It was quick and easy and he had running in no time. Reasonably priced too.

Very corteus technician, he came prepared for covid and follow all of the social distancing rules. He performed a diagnosis on water pressure being low - after some diagnosis on the pipelines, water heater vérification, drainage it turned out to be a regional problem and not much can be done. Very good pricing, affordable and corteus individual.

Alberto’s Plumbing was very helpful and provided me with free support over the phone. My son flushed underwear down the toilet and I was nervous it would back up. Alberto’s returned my phone call within minutes and walked me thru the steps to make sure my toilet was not clogged, all free of charge. Will definitely give Alberto’s Plumbing a call for future plumbing services.

Alberto did all the plumbing on the remodel of my kitchen and bathrooms. There was a lot of work and he did an excellent job including moving the shower drain in the slab foundation for the master bath, updating and installing sink drains, faucets, gas range and everything plumbing related. If I had an emergency, he was here within minutes to address it, including checking the gas on my hot water heater just this morning! I can’t say enough good things about his work other than his prices were quite reasonable as well.

We called Alberto last week to have him come out since our kitchen sink was backing up and we'd tried everything. He came to us in Georgetown that same day and had the clog cleared quickly and was very polite and professional. We highly recommend him!
